How It Works
Vascular lasers treat broken or abnormal blood vessels through technology that very selectively targets oxyhaemoglobin. Oxyhaemoglobin is the component of blood that gives it its red colour. The laser works by heating the targeted vessel causing the absorption of heat by the oxyhaemoglobin to create a small localised blockage which causes the outer walls on the vessel to shrink. This reduces blood flow to the vessel, significantly reducing the visible redness and encourages the body to remove the damaged vessel.

When treating very small vessels, it is possible for the laser to achieve immediate clearance of the vessel.

Veins & Vessels
Visible blood vessels are commonly found on the face or the legs and can be secondary to many factors. This can include rosacea, alcohol consumption, weather, skin trauma, pregnancy, age, genetics, and certain skin disorders.

In healthy vessels, the walls of the capillaries are usually very elastic, but with time, frequent dilation, inflammation or weakening they lose the ability to contract causing them to remain enlarged and visible.

*It is important to note that we do not treat deep leg veins, reticular veins or varicose veins with Long Pulse Laser treatment. These conditions require specialist input and further investigation.

FAQS
Prior to treatment with vascular laser a consultation with Dr Khossousi is required to determine suitability of the vessels for treatment.
Depending on the size, location, amount and blood flow in the area to be treated, Dr Khossousi will create a tailored treatment plan for you which will include the expected number of treatments required and maintenance treatments. You may be referred for further specialist consultation if deemed necessary to ensure there are no underlying vascular conditions that may interfere with results.

You will be provided with eye protection and any hair in the area will be removed. With each delivery of energy a small pin prick and mild heat will be experienced. Small vessels may be almost painless and larger vessels may feel like a hot flick. This sensation subsides almost immediately.
