Size dependent, will require multiple sessions

Tattoo removal treatment utilises q-switched laser technology to deliver light, in billionths of a second at very high energy. This essentially shatters the ink within the skin into smaller particles for the body to absorb and discard through its natural filtering process.

The laser itself is extremely precise meaning it solely targets the pigment in the tattoo ink, leaving the surrounding tissue free of thermal damage.

Almost all tattoos will need multiple sessions for removal. It can take upwards of 10 sessions, depending on the depth of the tattoo, the type of ink, colour of the ink, skin type and size. Generally speaking black ink tattoos may be easier to remove in comparison to tattoos with multiple colours. This is due to the fact that multiple coloured tattoos require treatment with different wavelengths, making removal more challenging. Tattoos with yellow, red or purple ink are complicated to remove and may require several sessions to see significant fading.

Due to the accuracy of the laser we are able to remove just portions of tattoos if you wish to take away small elements. Many people also use tattoo removal to lighten a previous tattoo prior to covering it with something else.

FAQ'S

Every new client of Southern Skin Clinic will require a full cosmetic consultation. This consultation will include clinical photography and skin assessment based on your concerns and expectations. Dr Ali and Nurse Tess will then tailor a treatment plan that is specific to you.

Your skin will be cleaned prior to removal and topical anaesthetic is available if you wish to use it. The treatment is extremely fast and cool air is applied for comfort.

Immediately following treatment, you will see a white frosting where the laser has made contact with the tattoo ink. This is more noticeable with black ink and may be none with coloured ink. It is common for the area to be red and swollen, with pin point bleeding.

Small blisters in the area are also common throughout the healing phase. Most coloured tattoos will blister more due to the coloured inks potential to cause allergic reaction after treatment.
